Transcribed by Dave & Sue Tylcoat 1995 from a photocopy of the original (Colchester RO copy).
A different handwritten version came from Essex RO, Chelmsford - T/A 746/47 [PROB 11/105 b/4423] - almost no difference except in handwriting. On the witnesses Mott is without an 'e' & the others are spelt Sparhawke.
There are no major differences. Both are early copies of the original as no signatures appear on either.
Probatum fuit etc. appears at the bottom of the Chelmsford version (but no names - Dynchy etc. as in SVT p19).

Appurtenances. The rights and duties attached to the holding of manorial land. The most important were submission to the manor court, grazing rights and the payment of various fines to the lord of the manor. A pew, or part of a pew, in church was often an 'appurtenance' of a specific house in the parish.(Dict. Gen., Fitzhugh).

Joyned stoole (& other furniture). Made by a joiner.
Fflocke. Wool refuse used for stuffing mattresses and pillows.

App'ntyssoodes. Apprenticehoods=Apprenticeships.
From JPT's book AppVIII p1:- "We have no definite information on the reasons for the Grant of Arms or why the Arms, Crest and Motto were designed in the way they are. Nevertheless, we know that the Griffin emblem was shown on leaden seals used in the Colchester wool-cloth business (App.IX) and that the Colchester Talcotts were involved both in the Pewter and the wool-cloth trades. The leaden seals are very likely to have been made by Pewterers, pewter being a lead-tin alloy. It seems almost certain that this is where the Griffin on the family Crest must have originated."
Old Pewter its Makers and Marks, Howard Herschell Cotterell, B.T.Batsford Ltd, London. "Illustrating all known marks and secondary marks of the old pewterers, with a series of plates showing the chief types of their wares".
There is no 'Taylcote' (or any variant) in the alphabetical list of pewterers. There does not appear to be any mention of the Colchester area either. In chapter VII, a list of unidentified marks, p376, 5905, is a picture of a griffin in a shield with the letters T & R either side of the griffin, within the shield. The caption is :- R......, T......, of? : c.1670.
